Sisterly Love with Zoe and Zaley – Children’s Portraits

Children’s Portraits –

I had Zoe and her little sister over my studio for a children’s portrait session. This super cute duo really showed their sisterly love as they settled in and made my studio their play room. I love doing children’s portraits because kids do the darndest things that adults wouldn’t normally do, like dress-up and wear princess outfits. Zaley, the younger one, was a great conversationalist. While we talked about her favorite colors and toys and TV shows, she was at ease while I photographed her just being herself. When it was time to change outfits, she showed off her Cinderella slippers which she aptly called “Bella”. Short for Cinderella. Overall, parents were happy as they looked on with delight. Oh, and the kids definitely had tons of fun too. To see more Children’s Portraiture or Family Portraiture, visit my website at www.desibaytan.com.

Men’s Fashion: Sprezzatura – The Art of Man

Men’s Fashion

I love men’s fashion, but what I love most is that’s it’s tasteful, seems effortless and done right. The word “sprezzatura” comes to mind; it’s what the Italians define as “whatever one does…appear to be without effort and almost without any thought…”.    So I ask… “how does one attempt sprezzatura in men’s fashion for weddings where black suits are the status quo?”  To answer that, we teamed up with Lucia Pador of Utterly Engaged and Pocket Square Clothing to style this very unique shoot.  Andrew Cheung and Rodolfo Ramirez of Pocket Square Clothing were the mastermind behind the amazing styling. Aside from distinctively tailored suits they added a repertoire of ties, pocket squares and accessories to make the guys readily stand out. I love seeing vibrant colors, and perfectly tailored fitted suits.  OK, enough fashion advice from a photographer.  I invite you to enjoy the photos… Oh, BTW, I got the bike from a custom bike shop in Old Town Monrovia called the Velocipedist.com. Go see Steve Gonzalez, a true craftsman bike builder.

January Rose Bridal Accessories Look Book and Editorial Photo Shoot

The following editorial was made possible with sugar and spice and everything nice with a big dollop of Love from January Rose Bridal. The result is this amazing photo shoot with January’s creations at center stage. Her designs celebrate the delicate beauty of all things wedding–an adornment of head pieces to give every bride the soft romantic beauty she deserves. Also a big shout out to Nancy Teasley of Oak and the Owl for the dreamy floral designs and styling. It would not have been complete without her inspirational backdrops.

Old Town Pasadena: A Style Of It’s Own

Old Town Pasadena is one of my favorite places to go. It’s where my studio is located and it’s where I do my photo shoots and studio portraiture (go to creativestudio321.com to see my studio) . But when I’m walking about Old Town, my favorite thing to do is photograph the people on the street. I just love the way they dress, and frankly, there are a lot of groovy people walking about strutting their style. So I thought, why not show them off? This post is dedicated to those I had an opportunity to meet on the streets of Colorado, Green, Fair Oaks, and the alleyways of Old Town Pasadena. Thank you everyone for the lovely encounters!

Ivy & Derek Wedding at Laguna Cliffs Marriott

When I met Ivy & Derek in my studio they knew what they were looking for in a photographer. And as I got to know this fine pair through our meetings and their charming engagement session, I could see how much Ivy adores Derek and how Derek looks after her with every attention. I could see that there is love. It’s fun to see how they playfully joke and laugh, never a dull moment. All in all, the memories of their wedding may be summed up in three words: beautiful, cherished, memories.

Creative Studio 321 Holiday Soirée with Lumiani Events and Theresa Huang Makeup & Hair Design

It’s that time of year where we get a chance to sit back and reflect on what we’ve accomplished in the last year. I’ve been in this business for many years and we’ve met the brightest and “bestest” people along the way. And I am so glad to be in the company of such great friends. Here’s to our studio mates, Nhu Muon, Linda Tan, and Cathy Lau of Lumiani Events (thanks so much for coordinating our Holiday Soirée), and to Theresa Huang of Theresa Huang Makeup and Hair Design. Lumiani decked the back alley of our studio with the most festive scene filled with good friends to warm our hearts and great food to warm our tummies.

I also got to meet new and exciting people like James Lee (you can see him at Food Hack TV) who made the desserts. His apple caramel ice cream pops was soooo good I didn’t want to share! And the hor d’oeuvres table, credit goes to Yvonne Tsai. Her food is not only scrumptious they look so pretty too. Check her Facebook page at Bites with Flights. Glad to see Eddie Palma DJing. Really gave the event an extra kick. And thanks to all our friends (LaDawn Williams, Gloria Nguyen, Charlize & William, Lisa Larios & Family, Lisa Hong Burke, Thomas Lim and many more) who dropped by to check out our newly redesigned studio. It was exciting to see all of you. Happy Holiday’s to everyone! Hope you enjoyed yourselves.
